Hip-hop will be on top again in 2026. Late last year, Billboard reported that Hip-hop market share fell from 30 percent in 2020 to 24 percent in 2025, sparking debates among fans and critics about whether rap was losing its selling power or simply rebooting.
The year shows that the genre is thriving. Albums J.Cole, A$AP Rocky and don toliver They started the new year obtaining great sales figures with their respective projects.

Meanwhile, J. Cole’s masterpiece, The fallmoved 280,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release.
In May, Duck had the highest album sales among rappers this year. Drizzy’s ninth studio release, Icemandebuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after moving 463,000 equivalent album units during its seven-day sales period following the May 15 launch. It marks the second-biggest sales week of 2026 for an album and the biggest week of the year for a hip-hop project.
