Although, of course, everyone is entitled to their own favorites, for me, consequences 3 It remains the best entry in the iconic post-apocalyptic series. It really made it clear how grim the whole scenario would be if it came true, and Washington DC suffered much more direct damage from nuclear and ballistic weapons than any of the other locations we’ve played up to this point.
That said, it came out in 2008, and if you play it again today in its original form, it can be a bit jarring given the visuals we’ve become accustomed to. Although there are many rumors about an official remaster of the game underway, they remain just that, rumors, and we have to look elsewhere for solutions for now. Fortunately, there are some very smart people out there, and one in particular has given us a great window into what an official re-release could look like.
On YouTube, the user Julian Uccetta uploaded images of a project they have been working on, in which they have ported and remastered Fallout 3 to Unreal Engine 5.7. It’s built entirely using a custom plugin system they’ve developed themselves, which allows developers to import Bethesda games directly into the engine (with the exception of Skyrim:LE and consequences 4).
While it’s still in the early stages and there are certainly some bugs, it’s comfortably the most interesting and realistic look at what a full remaster of the game could, and arguably should, be like. Those fans who made it to the comments section were delighted with what they saw, particularly with how unusually forgiving of the original work the new visuals were in a notoriously stunning engine.
“This is exactly the remaster I want! Original assets only with a new engine that supports real shadows, lighting and effects!” a comment read.
While another added: “It’s an immensely small thing, but I appreciate that one of the first things you showed was the grip. Not only are the grip and physics intact, but visually they are EXACTLY what I mentally expected and remember.” FO3It seemed like physics. It’s a small thing, but it shows a lot about how faithful you want the plugin and its systems to be when transferring everything.”
“This is incredibly awesome. I’m glad to see that people are opening up Gamebryo’s data-driven architecture and seeing where it can take them. This alone is very, very impressive. When you opened the toolbox my jaw dropped lol,” said a third.
The rumors surrounding the official remake of consequences 3 They continue to tour, but big projects like this serve as a lot of comfort in the meantime. If even one of them comes to fruition, we may not need Bethesda to do anything before we can play what should feel like a completely new game.
