Steve Burton divorce drama reignites over custody dispute

Steve Burton is accusing his ex-wife Sheree Gustin of interfering with his relationship with his youngest daughter in a new court filing, reigniting tensions years after their headline-grabbing split. According to new reports, the “General Hospital” actor alleges that Gustin has engaged in “blatant parental alienation” and has been “systematically” undermining his relationship with his 11-year-old daughter, Brooklyn.

Steve Burton claims that Gustin has repeatedly created obstacles around court-ordered parenting time and made co-parenting increasingly difficult following his move from California to Tennessee.

In the presentation obtained by the daily mail, Burton alleges that Gustin has placed “unnecessary obstacles” in his custody time and has “repeatedly refused” to allow his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, to pick up Brooklyn on his behalf.

Furthermore, he claims that Gustin refuses to “acknowledge Michelle’s role as my wife or Michelle’s daughters as Brooklyn’s stepsisters,” even though Burton insists that Brooklyn has developed a “close relationship” with them.

Burton and Gustin, who finalized their divorce in 2023 after 23 years of marriage, also share daughter Makena, 22, and son Jack, 20.

Lundstrom, whom Burton married earlier this year, is a lifestyle and food influencer who also appeared on the second season of Netflix’s “Barbecue Showdown” in 2023. She has two daughters, Lilah, 15, and Hannah, 11, from a previous relationship.

Burton also alleges that Gustin refused to cooperate in arranging visits from Brooklyn to travel to Tennessee after moving from California. However, Gustin strongly disputes Burton’s accusations.

In her response, she reportedly denied allegations of parental alienation and argued that the former couple had already established a custody schedule through prior legal proceedings. While acknowledging the importance of Brooklyn maintaining a relationship with her father, Gustin reportedly argued that he doesn’t want his daughter to “spend half her life traveling.”

According to the filing, Gustin believes Brooklyn should not be away from home for more than three weeks at a time. He also reportedly argued that Burton made the decision to move out of state and if he wants additional time beyond the agreed-upon deal, he can travel to California to see Brooklyn.

The custody dispute marks the latest chapter in current tensions between the former couple. In a May 2025 filing, Gustin allegedly accused Burton of “harassing” her through what she described as excessive communication about Brooklyn’s custody arrangements. That presentation came just weeks after Burton married Lundstrom.

Before that, Burton had also accused Gustin of interfering with his time in Brooklyn, echoing claims that have now resurfaced in his latest legal filing.

“Sheree has apparently forgotten how our family ended up in this situation. It was Sheree who had an extramarital affair, became pregnant with another man’s child, and immediately moved him into her home after our separation, without informing me that she would do so,” Burton claimed in previous court papers.

He also stated that tensions surrounding his relationship with Lundstrom became an issue from the beginning. “Early on in my relationship with Michelle, Sheree began refusing to call Michelle by her name and instead referred to her as ‘the girl’ in an effort to downplay her role in my life,” Burton alleged.

In a text exchange included in previous filings, Burton claimed Gustin wrote, “Michelle is not your family or our kids’ family lol. She’s your girlfriend.” According to Burton, Gustin also made it difficult for Brooklyn to spend time with him whenever Lundstrom or her daughters were around.

“Sheree made it clear to me that she did not want Brooklyn to spend time with me if Michelle or her daughters were around,” he said. “When Michelle and her daughters were in town, Sheree made it difficult for me to exercise custodial time in Brooklyn when I was in California. All of my requests were met with resistance. Sheree would tell me that the requested time didn’t work out or that they were busy, even though I gave her plenty of notice.”

Burton and Gustin’s divorce became public in 2022 after the actor revealed that Gustin was pregnant with another man’s child. The former couple officially finalized their divorce in 2023 after more than two decades of marriage.

Gustin now shares daughters Izabella, 3, and Addy, 2, with Jason Amador, as Burton continues to balance family life with his acting career.
