Speaking to the media after the fight, White said he hoped the event would “create some unity in the country.” Hokit’s comments, already facing an uphill battle toward bipartisan approval, immediately undermined any aspirations that the event would not be politicized. Additionally, any sense of “unity” White hoped to foster was exclusive to Paramount+ users, as wrestling was protected by a paywall behind the streaming service and not widely available to the public unless they subscribed to the streaming service.

Hokit’s comments about Michelle Obama were just one of the night’s many controversial moments. One of the biggest stories from UFC Freedom 250, in fact, unfolded not in the octagon but on social media, when Daniel Cormier’s X/Twitter account tweeted and deleted alleged messages from Eric Trump asking if any of the fights were “rigged.”
Cormier has since said that his the account was “hacked or something” while Trump claimed that he never spoke to DC and that the screenshots of the The messages were “generated by AI.”
In the alleged messages, Trump sought information about the fight between Diego Lopes and Steve García, since he believed that the loser García could pull off the upset (García had odds of +136). However, the favorite Lopes won by technical knockout in the second round.
Hokit, 28, who went viral at Saturday’s weigh-in when he tripped on the scale and vomited on himself, defeated Derrick Lewis via second-round TKO to improve to 10-0-0 in his UFC career.
