OutKick Readers Talk Their Biggest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snubs

This week, my friend, OutKick writer extraordinaire Austin Perry, and I put together an article and video about our The 10 Biggest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snubs after the last group of recruits was announced.

The response was overwhelming, and many herald it as an instant classic, even if we wrongly said Jimmy Buffett wasn’t in the rock lounge when he was posthumously admitted in 2024.

Which, to be fair to us, is still waaaaay Too late.

But we opened the word to readers and got a ton of emails with bands and artists that you think are the best. bigger slights.

So, let’s take a look at some of them, shall we?

crimson king

Todd made a great suggestion to us that is a major omission in the progressive rock realm:

Your lists are very good. I would add King Crimson because they are the godfathers of progressive. They influenced Tool, Rush and Genesis. “At the Court of King Crimson” is a musthave album. Guided By Voices should also be present. They released three of the great independent albums in a row: “Bee Thousand”, “Alien Lanes” and “Under The Bushes, Under The Stars”. The brains behind the band, Robert Pollard, has written more than 4,000 songs. He is the most underrated American artist of the last 50 years.

Stygian

A reader sent me a message that simply said “Styz” in the subject line and then “And it’s not close” in the body.

I guess he was referring to Styx, but for all I know, there might be a band called Styz that kicks a lot of ass. That would be a good name for a Styx cover band, though.

Anyway, if he was talking about Styx, then I couldn’t agree more. Important omission.

“Mr. Roboto” is ironically one of my favorite songs and of course I also love all the “good” songs like “Renegade”, “Blue-Collar Man” and “Too Much Time On My Hands”.

Boston

Matt (what name) wrote with a band that I’m actually disappointed in Austin and didn’t think:

I wouldn’t necessarily remove any of your top 5, but Boston should be there, hell, based on his musical inventions/contributions as the Rockman, Tom Scholz should do it on his own. It depends on which statistics you trust, but most say that Boston has sold over 50 million albums in total, and their debut release set the record for highest sales until they broke it 15 years later. Sure, they may be overproduced musically, but More Than a Feeling…damn, that song alone should be in the hall of fame. Turning up that song while driving is a feeling in itself.

Neil Sedaka

Another reader sent in the late Neil Sedaka, and that’s a guy I assumed was in, but he’s not.

And that is criminal.

A long career, an incredible work and what is undoubtedly one of the best performances of all time:

The hair, the movements, the mom jeans. It’s magical.

Also, the song is great!

True story: The great Colin Quinn basically used to Rickroll people with that video on Twitter, which I thought was the funniest thing ever.

I showed that rendition of “Bad Blood” to my wife and she loved it so much that we put the song on our wedding dinner playlist.

linkin park

Something I noticed while putting together my list was that nu metal bands are now eligible to enter the Hall of Fame, and at some point, some will, but who will be first?

My first thought was Slipknot or Korn, but I think a reader got Linkin Park right:

My biggest slight is Linkin Park. How the hell are they not inside?!? They check so many boxes. It sold a lot of albums, tons of radio hits, was a critical success, and unfortunately,to personal tragedy with the death of Chester. They were the voices of 2000s rock radio and the ones who really brought nu-metal to the mainstream.

I think they will eventually get in, but it’s hard to see other late 90s/2000s groups like The White Stripes and Foo Fighters getting in (deservedly so), but not Linkin Park.

He guesses who

There was one band that was mentioned more than any other, and that was Guess Who.

Delco Scott writes:

I loved your article about bands that aren’t in the Hall of Fame. I agree with each one of yours. Here is my top 5.

  1. He guesses who
  2. bad finger
  3. Squeeze
  4. Sweet
  5. BTO

It is totally criminal that they are not there!

Disgusting Snub #1: The Grass Roots.

Disgusting Snub #2: Guess who.

Simply disgusting.

More overlooked artists who deserve to be in the Hall (in no particular order):

Yeah

Matt writes:

…In addition, the Guess W.ho (honestly, Canada’s biggest band is still missing).

So, it looks like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has its work cut out for it. do in the coming years to give all these acts the well-deserved recognition.
