The war of words between sports media personalities Dan Le Batard and Craig Carton is making headlines again.
After years of exchanging photos in public, the former rivals have rekindled their feud following a series of scathing comments from Carton that quickly sparked an equally harsh response from Le Batard.
The latest exchange has become another chapter in one of the most personal rivalries in sports media.
Carton launches a blistering attack
The latest round began during Carton’s WFAN radio show, when a caller mentioned Le Batard’s name.
Cardboard did not hold back.
He described the former ESPN host as a “woke bastard” and a “talentless pirate,” while criticizing Le Batard’s career and questioning the success of his media company.
Carton argued that Le Batard had positioned himself as a moral authority despite, in his view, lacking achievements to justify that role.
The comments spread quickly on social media and sports media circles.

Le Batard offers a forceful response
Le Batard wasted no time addressing these statements during his own show.
Instead of immediately responding with anger, he opened with sarcasm.
“Woke up? I’ll take that. Talentless? That’s subjective,” Le Batard joked before addressing Carton’s harshest criticism.
He then turned the conversation to Carton’s past legal problems.
Le Batard noted that Carton served more than a year in prison and said being called “trash” by someone with that record carried little weight.
He added that if Carton saw that description in the mirror every morning, he would have much more experience on the subject than Le Batard.
The comments immediately reignited debate in the sports media.
A fight that has been brewing for years
The tension between the two personalities is nothing new.
Le Batard has repeatedly criticized Carton for the legal issues that led to his conviction and prison sentence, and frequently references that chapter of Carton’s life when discussing his return to broadcasting.
When Carton landed a job at Fox Sports in 2023, Le Batard openly questioned the decision and repeatedly referred to him as “the man who went to jail.”
It’s clear that Carton has never forgotten those comments.

Personal stories continue to fuel the dispute
Today, both men have moved on to different phases of their careers.
Carton has been involved in responsible gaming initiatives through his work with FanDuel, using his own experiences to raise awareness about gambling addiction and the resources available to those seeking help.
Meanwhile, Le Batard co-founded Meadowlark Media alongside former ESPN president John Skipper, expanding his independent media platform after leaving ESPN.
Despite their professional successes, the personal tension between the two is still very much alive.

There are no signs that the rivalry is slowing down
Given the history between Carton and Le Batard, it is unlikely that this latest exchange will be the final one.
Both have built their careers offering strong opinions and aren’t afraid to challenge each other publicly.
Every time one mentions the other, sports media fans can almost expect another round of headlines to follow.

This dispute has become deeply personal and neither side seems interested in backing down. Craig Carton’s comments were almost certain to provoke a response, and Dan Le Batard delivered it just as forcefully. At this point, each new trade seems to add another layer to a rivalry that has been simmering for years, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the back-and-forth continues.
