General Hospital has recast the role of Emily ‘Scout’ Cain, a major character played by Cosette Abinante for four years since 2022. The daughter of Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and the late Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Scout is at the center of one of the long-running soap opera’s most popular storylines as she is a member of two of the series’ most prominent families.
Scout has become one of the most important characters in Port Charles, as the issue of her custody following Sam’s death has thrust her into the spotlight and caused chaos within her family. Drew had taken out restraining orders against Sam’s family, including Scout’s half-brother, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn); her grandmother, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn); and her aunts, Kristina (Kate Mansi) and Molly (Kristen Vaganos).
However, after Drew’s wife Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) secretly drugged him, causing lock-in syndrome, which everyone believes is the result of a stroke, she agreed to let Scout live with Alexis. However, this all changed when Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), who gives Willow the drugs that keep Drew paralyzed, demanded that Scout move back in with Willow and Drew. Willow told Alexis that she wanted Scout back, but that she would drop the last remaining restraining order against Danny. Danny, Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and Rocco (Finn Carr) have been key players in the General Hospital teen scene, and now it looks like Scout will be joining their group as well.
General Hospital recasts Scout Cain
According to Soap Opera DigestKayden Brenna Tokarski will take over the role of Scout from Abinante starting in July. On June 1, when General Hospital shared a video of the cast celebrating the filming of the show’s 16,000 episodes, fans noticed Tokarski in the clip and many guessed she would be playing Scout.
General Hospital is Tokarski’s first daytime acting role, but the 16-year-old has been acting professionally since the age of 10, appearing in several TV shows and films. One of her most notable roles was playing a younger version of Julia Roberts’ character, Martha, in the Starz limited series, Gaslit.
Why is General Hospital recasting Scout?
Soap Opera Digest reported that General Hospital recasts Scout to make the character older. Scout will be the latest character to experience SORAS (soap opera rapid aging syndrome), a soap opera trend in which children’s characters skip entire years of their lives, transforming them from children to teenagers or young adults overnight. The character Scout was born on-screen on February 28, 2017, so she would have to be only nine years old.
It will be interesting to see if General Hospital decides to make one of the other younger characters older since there is a large group of kids on the show including Wiley, Amelia, Leo, Avery, Donna, Georgie, James, and Bailey Lu.
Since Scout is such an important player in the Cain/Quartermaine and Davis families, it’s no surprise General Hospital ages her so she can participate in juicier storylines. At sixteen, Tokarski is considerably older than thirteen-year-old Abinante. It will be interesting to see how an older Scout reacts to the issues surrounding her custody and when the truth inevitably comes out about Willow’s role in her father’s lock-in syndrome, including that she shot him last year and got away with it. Abinante will be greatly missed in the role of Scout, but Tokarski will usher in a new era for the character.
