WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT THE SULLIVAN’S CROSSING SEASON 4 FINALE!Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 has come to an exciting conclusion, leaving ten burning questions that must be answered in season 5. Sullivan’s Crossing has been renewed for season 5, and is expected to debut in the spring of 2027 on Canada’s CTV, and later on the CW in the United States.
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 concluded with Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray) proposing to Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) after they’d reconciled after breaking up because of Maggie’s kiss with her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Liam Davies (Marcus Rosner). Before Maggie had the chance to accept the proposal and try on the ring, Tracy (Emerson MacNeil) arrived at Cal’s doorstep with the social worker Jeannie Blasette (Trina Corkum) because her foster family no longer wanted to take care of her, and she assumed that he’d take her in. However, Maggie seemed as though she was going to say yes.
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 didn’t end with as dramatic of a cliffhanger as previous seasons, but it did leave some questions on fans’ minds as they await new episodes. Here are ten questions that must be answered in Sullivan’s Crossing season 5.
Will Sully Return For Maggie & Cal’s Wedding?
Sullivan’s Crossing season 5 might feature Maggie and Cal’s wedding. They don’t seem like the type of couple to have a long engagement, so it’s highly possible that they’ll get married sooner than later. It’s hard to imagine Maggie getting married without her father, Harry “Sully” Sullivan” (Scott Patterson), walking her down the aisle, but the actor left the show on difficult terms ahead of season 4.
In conflicting statements, Patterson stated that he exited the series due to creative differences about the direction of his character, while showrunner Roma Roth blamed his departure on the storyline in which Sully left the Crossing to move to Ireland with his new girlfriend, Helen Culver (Kate Vernon). Roth stated that there was always a possibility that Sully could return to Sullivan’s Crossing at a later date.
Although it seems unlikely that Patterson would return to the role of Sully, it also seems impossible that the character wouldn’t return for his daughter’s wedding. There’s no excuse in the world that would justify Sully missing such a monumental event in Maggie’s life. Even a glimpse of the back of the character’s head played by a different actor would be better than not having him there at all. It’s going to be very intriguing to see how this plays out.
How Will Maggie’s Mother React To Her Engagement?
Completely nonexistent in Sullivan’s Crossing season 4, Maggie’s mother, Phoebe Lancaster (Lynda Boyd), started off as a woman who wanted to keep up appearances in her seemingly perfect life. However, when her husband, Walter (Peter Outerbridge), was arrested for billing fraud, her life began to unravel. Phoebe even spent some time at the Crossing and nearly rekindled her romance with her ex-husband, Sully.
It’ll be interesting to see how Phoebe reacts to Maggie getting engaged to a man like Cal. Although he’s mostly a handyman around the Crossing now, he used to be a lawyer in New York City, so he embodies both worlds. Phoebe should fully accept him as Maggie’s husband because he makes her daughter happy, but she might slip back into her old ways. In addition, it could be great fun to see Phoebe meddling in Maggie’s wedding plans, since she’d want something extravagant and lavish, while Maggie would prefer the exact opposite.
Will Maggie Accept A Position In Dr. Carlson’s Practice?
During the Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale, Dr. Quincy Carlson (Jonathan Silverman) offered Maggie a position in his practice after she receives her medical license to work as a general practitioner. They had a very rocky start to their relationship as mentor and trainee, mainly due to their clash about Tracy’s medical care, but she earned his respect when she made a correct diagnosis just in the nick of time.
While working with Dr. Carlson would be the comfortable and safe choice, it’s possible that Maggie will want to branch out and start a practice of her own. After working as a neurosurgeon in Boston for many years, she might want greater control over her own career. Much of Maggie’s season 4 storyline was focused on the love triangle with her, Cal, and Liam, so it would be refreshing to see the focus shift to her medical career. Some of Sullivan’s Crossing’s best storylines have consisted of Maggie figuring out difficult diagnoses for her patients.
What Will Happen To Ben & Tracy?
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 introduced Ben Nelson (Colby Frost) and his sister, Tracy, two troubled teens whose mom abandoned them. Cal became a mentor to Ben, but, when Tracy became ill, Ben overheard a social worker stating that Tracy might have to go to foster care. Not wanting to be split up, Ben helped Tracy leave the hospital without permission. Because she had a relapse after that and due to his priors, Ben was arrested and is now facing a trial.
It’s highly likely that Cal and Maggie will take Tracy in now that her foster family has cast her out. However, this could put a strain on Maggie and Cal’s relationship, considering that Tracy has become particularly difficult since her brother’s arrest, for which she blames Maggie and often lashes out at her. Despite this, Sullivan’s Crossing loves a happy ending after putting its characters through the wringer, so it’s also probable that Ben and Tracy will get out of this predicament, and Ben will be able to become Tracy’s guardian when he comes of age in the near future.
Will Rob Fire Amir When He Finds Out He’s Seeing Sydney?
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 also brought Amir Malik (Fuad Ahmed) to town, a Michelin-starred chef from New York City, and an old friend of Rob Shandon (Reid Price). Rob asked Amir to help him out at his new restaurant while he set up his son Finn (Zayn Maloney) at an exclusive school in Toronto, but told his sister and business partner, Sydney (Lindura), not to get involved with him because he was a player. After initially not liking Amir, Sydney became his friend, and then they became involved romantically.
Rob asked Amir to work at the restaurant full-time while he spent time with Finn, under the condition that he stay away from Sydney. During the Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale, Rob walked into the kitchen as Amir and Sydney were having an intimate encounter in the walk-in refrigerator. He’d heard noises, but he didn’t seem to realize what was happening. It’ll be interesting to see if Rob fires Amir when he finds out that he and Sydney went behind his back and started a romantic relationship against his wishes.
Does Cooper Have Feelings For Sydney?
One of the most unexpected developments of the Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale was the revelation that fire chief Cooper (Steve Lund) seemed to have feelings for Sydney, based on the look on his face after he asked her to dance at the reception after the Mi’kmaq land ceremony. When he asked for a second dance, but Sydney declined, saying that she had to help Amir, he responded that maybe they could do it another time. Cooper then gave her a longing look while she walked away.
While it was clear that Sydney didn’t want to keep dancing with Cooper because of Amir, it’ll be interesting to see if Cooper continues to pursue her. He was close friends with her ex-boyfriend, Rafe Vadas (Dakota Taylor), a fellow firefighter who requested a transfer to another firehouse out of town after their breakup. That relationship could further complicate things if Cooper really does have feelings for Sydney.
What Happened To Rafe?
Speaking of Rafe, he was never heard from again after his Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 episode 1 exit. Although there wasn’t much a place for the character after his breakup with Sydney due to him wanting to get married and her being against walking down the aisle, it would’ve been nice to hear a bit about how his new life was going, especially because he’d been part of the cast since season 1.
Hopefully, Sullivan’s Crossing season 5 will give an update about Rafe, even if it’s only in the form of a phone call or text. Better yet, it would be thrilling to see Rafe return to fight for Sydney, and throw a wrench in her relationship with Amir.
Are Lola & Jacob Still A Couple?
In the first episode of Sullivan’s Crossing season 4, Lola Gunderson (Amalia Williamson) was fired from her job as a counselor at the youth center for bringing the children to the Crossing without their parents’ permission. She was devastated, but she eventually realized that it was a blessing in disguise because she could now visit her boyfriend, Jacob Cranebear (Joel Oullette), with whom she was in a long-distance relationship.
Williamson now stars alongside Brooke Shields on the Acorn TV series You’re Killing Me, which was recently renewed for season 2, so it’s unclear if she’ll have the availability to return to Sullivan’s Crossing. Still, a mention of Lola’s current status through a phone call or text, would give fans a much-needed update about the character. If Lola and Jacob are still together, then their relationship must be getting serious. It would be nice to hear Jacob’s cousins, Frank (Tom Jackson) and Edna (Andrea Menard), mention his name now and then, and for Lola’s friends, Maggie and Sydney, reach out to her.
Will Liam Resurface?
Although it appears that Liam is gone from the Crossing forever, it’s possible that he could return in the future. While it’s doubtful that Maggie would ever allow him to come between her and Cal again, he’s an intriguing character who could bring the same kind of adventurous spirit to the Crossing that Helen did in season 3. Liam is a free spirit, and he certainly has a lot more stories to tell.
It would be fun to see war correspondent Liam put aside his dangerous lifestyle and settle in at the Crossing, perhaps even starting a newspaper there. While the character could be frustrating at times, especially because he was keeping Maggie and Cal apart, Rosner is a charming actor, and he’ll be greatly missed.
Will Sully’s Distant Cousin In Ireland Become Important?
During the Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale, Maggie told Edna that when she was trying to reach Sully in Ireland to talk to him about her breakup with Cal, she was informed by Helen that he was in Dublin, tracking down a distant cousin. While at first it simply seemed like an excuse on the part of the writers for why Maggie couldn’t reach Sully, on second thought it could have a lot more meaning. Why not just have Maggie tell Sully about the breakup? She could’ve just told Edna how he reacted. Instead, the writers inserted this new development into the plot.
Although it’s probably nothing, this mention of a distant cousin could end up becoming part of the Sullivan’s Crossing season 5 plot. Long-lost relatives tend to bring fascinating revelations to TV shows, and this could lead the show down a whole new path if it develops into something.
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 was a wild ride through the love triangle of Cal, Maggie, and Liam, along with the stories of the other residents of the Crossing. Hopefully, season 5 will bring Maggie and Cal’s wedding, Sydney and Amir’s relationship, Ben’s acquittal, and some updates on characters fans haven’t seen in a while. Whatever happens, Sullivan’s Crossing season 5 is certain to capture viewers’ hearts and minds.
