Former The Only Way Is Essex star Lydia Bright has hit out at the ‘insane’ decision to close some schools due to the weather despite the Met Office issuing a red weather warning.

Despite the advice, Lydia did not take it seriously and expressed her concern on social media. The reality star, who is mom to six-year-old Loretta, posted on her Instagram Stories says: “Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy?
“At 7.15pm on Monday, I got an email saying that due to the heat school would be closed on Tuesday and now today and Thursday at 1pm. I’m struggling to get my head around it. All the kids are around World Sit in these temperatures every day in classrooms without air conditioning.
“Our children spend happy holidays all day this summer and when we collect them at 1 p.m. we take them to houses that have exactly the same temperature.”
She added: “Maybe I’m missing something? I’m currently trying to rearrange plans for Loretta abroad and I know I won’t be the only working parent trying to shift schedules and commitments. It feels like we’re solving one problem by creating another for hundreds of working families.”
In the UK, many school buildings are not designed to cope with high temperatures for long periods of time – a large proportion lack air conditioning and classrooms are prone to overheating.

“They are expected to concentrate, learn, and cope with noise, demands and busy classrooms for up to six hours a day. Many adults are struggling to think clearly and function this summer, so it’s not surprising that some children struggle too.”
