Laverne Cox says athletes, rappers hit on her but ‘never dated’

Because I also think about all my female coworkers, in my age range or whatever, like — all, like, famous athletes, rappers (and) actors who hit on me but, like, would never date me publicly because I’m trans.”

Cox continued, “My transness has protected me from a lot of things that many other women in Hollywood experience that are not good things – like a lot of narcissistic man. Rejection is truly God’s protection.”

Cox, who talks openly about her traumatic childhood and how she found healing and protection as a black person trans women in hollywoodsays an important part of her journey has been learning how to set healthy boundaries with potentially toxic people — including the men in her life — and sometimes avoid or push them away.

She explained, “Loving yourself means going to the doctor, eating food, getting enough sleep, but also loving people, places, and things.” We. “Who do I surround myself with? Are there people in my life who drain me, who make me feel bad about myself, who trigger my patterns and, if these people are not serving me, I have to let those people go.”

She added, “A lot of it is about letting go of certain types of people who are toxic and bring up old trauma, or who don’t have healthy boundaries.”

“I believe there is a spiritual realm of connection between us that transcends politics and history, but those things are physical reality, right?” he told We. “Like, they define who we are. I wasn’t able to have a relationship and build a life with them because of their politics, but that doesn’t negate the soul connection, right?”

She added, “Those two things are different – things that are social constructs, like for me being a Black trans woman is really only relevant because of the discrimination that Black trans people experience. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could live in a color-blind, genderless world? But we can’t because of oppression.”
