Kate Middleton has reached a major milestone in its charitable efforts. The Princess of Wales completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, walking the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales to raise awareness and support for cancer. This demanding achievement highlights her ongoing commitment to causes close to her heart, while inspiring others to get involved.
On June 28, Kate Middleton shared a photo of herself dressed in hiking gear and beaming at the summit of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain. As confirmed by the palace, the Princess of Wales has completed the assignment National Three Peaks Challengewhere you climb the highest peaks of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) within 24 hours. The entire running distance of the challenge is 27 miles with an ascent of approximately 10,000 feet.
Kate took on the demanding challenge of raising cancer awareness and money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the foundation of the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, where she received treatment for cancer.
“Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and has a profound impact on every aspect of life. I know this personally, and that the journey through and after treatment requires more than just medicine,” Kate noted, adding that she took on the challenge to “explore life beyond the diagnosis and give back.”
The Princess of Wales took on the challenge alone
Kate took on the challenge alone, but received support from Mountain Rescue to ensure her safety during the demanding trek. At the end of her journey, she was met by Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis; as well as her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, and her brother James.
In a short video, Kate explained her reason for taking on the challenge, saying it was partly personal. “I’m so grateful to be here, that I’m strong enough to walk these hills. But most importantly, it’s to give back,” she said.
The Duchess said overcoming the challenge was also her way of contributing to the Royal Masden Cancer Charity. A web page was founded for Kate’s cause, allowing supporters to make a one-off or monthly contribution.
Kate Middleton is in remission from cancer

In January 2024, it was announced that the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery. Her absence from public events after the announcement led to speculation about her health, and in March that year she revealed that cancer had been found during surgery, but did not elaborate on the specific type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
Admittedly, Kate said the diagnosis “came as a huge shock,” and her medical team recommended she undergo chemotherapy. In the months that followed, she provided updates on her health and told the public that she was making good progress.
In January 2025, Kate took to social media and shared that the cancer was in remission. “As anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis knows, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. However, I look forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she said.
The Princess of Wales on the consequences of her diagnosis for the family

Kate has shaped her royal duties to focus heavily on cancer advocacy following her diagnosis. She has it at the beginning of June visited The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, where she spoke to cancer patient Claire Lorente, who was undergoing her final treatment for breast cancer.
The Princess of Wales embraced Lorente in an emotional hug, saying: “Well done, you,” and offering words of encouragement. She also spoke to Lorente’s partner, telling him: “I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones. I know how hard it was for the kids and my parents. You’re going through it with them,” Kate said.
In 2025, Prince William opened up about how he and Kate shared the cancer diagnosis with their three children, explaining that “hiding things from them doesn’t work.” The couple took the time to explain Kate’s health to them, adding that they were open about their concerns and issues, but also gave them the reassurance they needed.
Prince William provided an update on Kate’s recovery

In an interview with ‘Heart Breakfast’ in May, Prince William gave an emotional update on his wife’s recovery and had nothing but praise for Kate. He said Kate was “in good shape” and had just completed a successful trip to Italy.
While Kate was eager to return to her royal duties, Prince William said they were trying to balance her recovery and slowly returning to her official responsibilities.
“She’s an amazing mother, an amazing wife, and our family literally couldn’t live without her. So she’s been absolutely gorgeous and brilliant,” he said.
