Kimberly Brook belonged to her late husband Jacobus Van Der Beek‘s side through everything – including his cancer journey. The couple shared six children togetherall of whom formed a complete support system for their father, and it’s clear that the Dawson’s Creek alum adored his family.
Sadly, James passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 48. And that Father’s Day, Kimberly paid tribute to her late husband in a heartbreaking Instagram post.
“Missing you so much and thinking about how amazing you were today in every way. And somehow, on the other side? You continue to age. You are a miracle,” Kimberly’s caption read.

The couple announced the heartbreaking news in an earlier episode of Dancing with the starsjust a month after their pregnancy announcement. “My wife Kimberly has experienced every expectant parent’s worst nightmare. We have lost the baby,” James announced to a stunned crowd. Kimberly and James are parents of six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn And Jeremiah.
The couple was an open book about Kimberly’s past miscarriages. In an earlier pregnancy announcement on InstagramJames talked about their difficult experience. “Kimberly and I went through three of those first appointments to discover that there was either no heartbeat or no baby, and she wanted to share this moment. Miscarriage (a word that needs to be replaced – no one failed to ‘carry’, these things just happen sometimes) is something people rarely talk about, and often experience in secret. But there doesn’t have to be any shame around it, or giving yourself the time and space to grieve. We decided to put ourselves out there – not knowing what we would find – in an effort to remove any pointless stigma surrounding this experience and encourage people who may be going through this experience to open themselves up to the love and support of friends and family when they need it most.”
Kimberly and James married in 2010
The couple married on August 1, 2010 in Tel Aviv, Israel. They welcomed their first child, Olivia, in September 2010. James was previously married to an actress Heather McComb.

Kimberly is credited as an associate producer on the 2010 documentary Teen paparazzo. She is also a business advisor.
