Jason George wants Ben to appear on The Grey’s Anatomy Texas spin-off
On May 19, 2026, ABC announced that a Grey’s anatomy spin-off set in Texas will premiere midseason in 2027. The show takes place at a rural medical center in West Texas, the last chance for miles of care. George believes Ben would be perfect in that setting, given his background in many different careers.
George explained, “(He) should visit Texas at some point because he has the skills of an EMT, firefighter, anesthesiologist and a surgeon. What else do you need? He’s a whole department unto himself, so he should come to Texas for a while. I want Ben to keep exploring.”
Jason George praises the Grey’s Anatomy creative team for their respect when writing off actors
George stated that too, when it comes to the ending Grey’s anatomy storylines of the characters and that’s why the show’s creative team lets actors go with respect and kindness. He explained, “They’re not afraid to make the tough decisions on the story front to keep the story as fresh and alive as possible. But they do it with respect. As early as possible – as soon as you think about it – you get a call and a conversation. I remember getting the call to do the spin-off for Station 19. I thought it was a call to say, ‘Sorry man, we’re writing Ben off the show.'”
George added, “I’m grateful because there are shows in Hollywood – you hear the stories – where you find out you’re reading the show at the table. You’re completely blindsided. I love that my bosses try to show as much respect as possible in that regard.”
George also said he is “no problem” about the possible end of Grey’s anatomy. He shared, “Every show that airs gets canceled one day. It’s just a matter of people treating it with respect as you walk the path. So that’s what I have and that’s a good time.”
Grey’s anatomy had a major cast shake-up in the season 22 finale, then Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) and Kim Raver (Dr. Teddy Altman) left the show after almost twenty years. It’s comforting to know that George’s Ben is returning to the show, as he has always been a strong and calming presence. Hopefully Ben will stay at Gray Sloan for years to come, even if he appears in Texas. Grey’s anatomy needs Jason George and Ben Warren.
