Deon Derrico speaks out after ex-wife Karen Derrico leaves arrested in nevada and accused of making threats against him and his children.
the first Doubling down with the Derricos the star appeared in The Sarah Fraser Showwhere he addressed Karen’s arrest, denied his legal team’s claims that he was behind the alleged threatening emails, and shared what he claims has been happening within the family since the allegations escalated.
Karen, who starred alongside Deon and their 14 children in the TLC series. Doubling down with the DerricosShe has been charged with harassment, violation of a temporary protection order, preventing or dissuading a witness from testifying by threat of violence, and aggravated stalking constituting domestic violence. She denied any wrongdoing through her lawyer, who publicly claimed the allegations are fabricated and accused Deon of sending the emails himself.
Deon firmly denied that allegation while speaking to Fraser.
“To say I hacked his computer and his emails,” Deon said, before rejecting the idea that he had the technical ability to do so.
“Anyone who knows me when I write, I write like a chicken whose seeds are picked out of the ground. I have to look at my finger when I touch the lyrics.”
He continued: “I’m saying my ability to be a tech expert; I’m not a tech expert in any shape or form.”
Deon added: “I rebuke and deny any of those allegations. They are allegations, no different than what has been brought against him, so it’s one of those things we’ll have to watch and see how it plays out. I absolutely deny hacking into anyone’s account.”
The case stems from alleged messages prosecutors say were sent to Deon, including threats against him and the children if they took his side. Karen’s lawyer has denied the allegations and reportedly argued that the emails were not actually written by Karen.
In one of the most emotional parts of the interview, Deon claimed that some of the children were so scared earlier this year that they started sleeping in their room.
“So all three of our daughters saw and felt the same thing,” Deon told Fraser. “They started and to this day they sleep in my room. They took over my room, locked the door, made sure they felt safe and wanted me to put a lock on their door.”
He said he believes his fear was related to the alleged threats.
“I think it was a result of her threatening to kill them,” he said.
Deon also told Fraser that most of the couple’s children are currently staying with him. When Fraser asked where the children are now, Deon replied: “I have 12 of our 14.”
“The day that happened, they asked me to stop by to pick up the additional minors who were at their house,” he said. “So I went there and picked up other minors. The other two children are still there.”
Deon and Karen divorced in June 2024 after years of documenting their lives as parents of 14 children on TLC. At the time of their divorce, the former couple had publicly presented a united front of co-parenting, making the current allegations especially shocking to longtime viewers of the family show.
During the interview, Deon also talked about his relationship with his mother, GG, who became a fan favorite on Doubling Down With the Derricos. He said the fallout from Karen’s arrest and the alleged threats brought him and GG unexpectedly closer.
“Well, GG has been dealing with some serious health issues, as you can imagine,” Deon said when Fraser asked how GG was doing. “It’s ironic that the breakup or should I say the explosion of this situation really catapulted GG and I.”
According to Deon, GG had often supported Karen in past family conflicts.
“GG has always been on Karen’s side, for the most part,” he said. “She’s always really supported Karen. For her to finally say, ‘Yeah, this is too much, I shouldn’t have done this.’ Then Karen stopped approaching GG.”
Deon also addressed whether he thinks there is another man in Karen’s life who could be influencing the situation. When Fraser asked if there was anyone he considered a potential threat, Deon named David Brody, whom he described as Karen’s business partner involved with her company, A Better Day.
“They go into schools and provide tutoring services in several schools in the valley,” Deon said.
He claimed that Brody had previously presented himself as someone who supported Deon and Karen as they resolved their issues.
“I was ironically venting to him about her and me,” Deon said. “He seemed genuine and wanted us to work things out. He never said anything negative against her.”
Deon said he initially did not believe Karen and Brody were having an affair, but stated that Brody’s involvement in Karen’s legal situation concerned him.
“I didn’t find out from Karen or him that they were having an affair,” she said, “but the money I know he’s been spending helping her with her legal issues. He’s been paying for her legal issues and other things.”
Deon’s comments come after Karen’s lawyer denied the allegations against her and accused Deon of making up the threats. Meanwhile, Deon has maintained that the legal process should be carried out and has denied being behind the emails.
Deon also spoke with Us weekly about the emotional cost that the situation has had on the family.
“I still love her as the mother of my children. But I don’t like her at all. I don’t like what she’s done,” Deon told the outlet, adding that she doesn’t like that the children have been dragged into the conflict.
He also said he is trying to focus on children amid the current legal situation.
Doubling down with the Derricos It premiered on TLC in 2020 and ended in 2024, the same year Deon and Karen’s divorce became final.
At the moment, the criminal case is still ongoing. Karen has denied any wrongdoing and Deon’s claims on the podcast have not been tested in court.
