Ryan Lochte is celebrating a major milestone outside of the pool, as the Olympic swimming legend is officially engaged to girlfriend Molly Gillihan.
According TMZLochte proposed last week during a romantic evening at Prime and Pearl in Gainesville, Florida, the same restaurant where the couple shared their first date. The engagement came as the couple celebrated their recent move to Missouri.
A full circle proposal
Lochte reportedly planned an emotional proposal that paid tribute to the beginning of their relationship.
The couple followed a path of red rose petals before arriving at the same booth where they had their first date. Waiting on the table was a card that posed the big question. When Gillihan turned around, he found Lochte kneeling.
His response was an enthusiastic yes.
Photos from the celebration show the newly engaged couple hugging and sharing a kiss inside the restaurant moments after the proposal.
The relationship grew quickly
Lochte and Gillihan first went public with their relationship over the Fourth of July weekend in 2025 and have now been together for about 14 months.
The couple reportedly started talking about engagement rings just six months into their relationship. While Lochte tried to figure out if she preferred gold or silver, Gillihan kept her request simple and focused more on the meaning behind the ring than the design itself.

“I’m on cloud 9”
Speaking with TMZ after the engagement, Lochte expressed his excitement about starting the next chapter of his life.
“I’m on cloud 9, she said yes. I’m happy this is my new beginning and I couldn’t do it without her,” he said.
The engagement comes shortly after Lochte shared a heartfelt birthday message to Gillihan on social media, thanking her for helping him get through one of the most challenging periods of his life.
A new chapter after divorce
The upcoming wedding will be Lochte’s second marriage.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist married Kayla Rae Reid in 2018. Reid filed for divorce in June 2025 and listed March 2025 as the date of their separation.
Since then, Lochte has focused on rebuilding himself both personally and professionally as he seeks a fresh start.
Busy year continues
In addition to committing, Lochte recently accepted a coaching position with the Missouri State University men’s swimming program.
The move marks the latest step in his transition from Olympic athlete to coach and mentor.
Now, in addition to his new role on deck, Lochte has another big event to prepare for: a wedding.
