Reading Time: 2 minutes
Year after year, we read horror stories about parents who starve a child or several children, sometimes to the point of death.
This story is different – but only up to a point.
A 7-year-old boy, who had never been enrolled in school, died at 255 pounds.
His parents have been arrested on charges including murder and torture. He was not their only child.

he was only 7 years old
On November 4, 2025, emergency services were called to Flint Township, Michigan on a 911 call.
The call was for a child in distress.
Casper, 7, was taken to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he died of dilated cardiomyopathy.
Medical experts found that a contributing cause was morbid obesity.

At age 7, Casper stood 4 feet 2 inches tall. Developmentally, he is slightly above average for his age.
According to the CDC (obviously, that highly politicized organization requires a large grain of salt), a “healthy” weight for her would have been less than 80 pounds.
At the time of his death, he reportedly weighed 255 pounds.
255 is smaller than some football players. Depending on one’s build, this may be the ideal weight for an adult body.
For a 7 year old, this is not healthy. And authorities say it’s evidence of multiple crimes committed by the late child’s parents.
‘Cruel and extreme suffering’
Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien have been charged with multiple crimes.
Charges include second-degree murder, child abuse and torture NY Post Report.
According to Genesee County Prosecutor David Layton, it is about “the cruel and extreme suffering of this child due to parental neglect.”
Actually, Caspar was not the only child in the house. The O’Briens also have a 5-year-old daughter.
Reportedly, they never enrolled Caspar in school, effectively hiding both children – and their well-being – from society. Now one of those children has died.

O’Brien is scheduled to appear in court on July 2.
It is unclear what type of legal defense they will pursue regarding these charges.
Additionally, it is unclear how much evidence investigators uncovered regarding the well-being of both children prior to Casper’s tragic death.
The death of every child is a tragedy. Many of these deaths, perhaps most, are preventable.
If our society had stronger protections for children, this would never have happened.
