TO Trader Joe’s The customer’s recent shopping trip serves as a reminder to your fellow consumers always check twice his income.
TikToker @intheclouds_ posted a video explaining how you spotted an error on your Trader Joe’s receipt. According to her, she intended to buy five tomatoes at her local Trader Joe’s. Instead, they mistakenly charged him 75 tomatoes.
“Not in this economy. No, ma’am,” says the buyer in the video, which already has more than 102,000 views. “This is your reminder to always check your receipt because why did they call me to order 75 tomatoes and I only got five?
The Roma tomatoes cost 29 cents, so the total for them was $21.75.
How did this happen? And what is the solution?
As many pointed out in the comments section, the cashier probably didn’t deliberately charge the TikToker 75 tomatoes. “As a cashier, mistakes like these happen more often, as you would imagine. People rush us and then we make little mistakes. I would refund you and give them to you for free,” one person said.
In most US grocery stores, produce has PLU codes. Cashiers enter the product code and select how many products the customer has at checkout. In this case, the cashier would have entered five as the number of tomatoes. But they may have inadvertently stolen a seven before a five, resulting in an excessive charge.
Customers can usually take their receipt to the place where they purchased their food to get a refund. Commenters who said they work at Trader Joe’s and other grocery chains said that if they had accidentally overcharged the customer, they would have refunded them.
But what happens if a grocery store refuses to accept a refund? If all else fails, a customer can file a complaint with the supermarket or even attempt a chargeback. Customers can report billing problems and overcharges to their credit card company. They usually have 60 days to do it.
is generally better ask receipts by saving money. That way, it’s easy to audit purchases and make sure grocery stores aren’t accidentally overcharging for common products.
