Prince Harry plans to take children to Princess Diana’s grave during a British trip

Prince Harry is reportedly planning a very personal stop during his upcoming trip to Great Britain of Meghan Markle and their children, Archie And Lilibet. And if reports are true, this could be one of the most emotional moments the Sussex family has shared in years.

According to Rob Sluiter‘s celebrity gossip Substack blogging Naughty but niceHarry hopes to take his children to the grave of his late mother, Princess Dianaduring their stay in Great Britain. The reported visit would give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to learn more about the grandmother, they never had the chance to meet but whose influence continues to shape much of Harry’s life.

A source close to the Spencer family told the outlet:

“Harry still carries the loss of his mother every day. The tragedy is that his children will never know her. This is about helping Archie and Lilibet feel connected to a grandmother who would have adored them.”

As royal guards know, Diana is buried on a remote island in Althorp, the Spencer family estate. Harry has visited the site privately over the years, making it one of the most meaningful places linked to his mother’s memory.

Yet the reported plans are already causing discussion behind the palace walls and among royal insiders. The discussion isn’t necessarily about Harry’s intentions. Instead, some wonder how the visit might ultimately be perceived publicly — especially given the intense public fascination surrounding both Diana’s estate and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The trip has also revived memories of Harry taking Meghan to Diana’s grave during the early days of their relationship. Although Harry reportedly viewed that moment as intensely personal, some critics have long argued that stories involving Diana would inevitably become part of the larger public narrative surrounding the Sussexes.

A well-placed source told the Substack blog:

“For Harry, Diana is his mother. For Meghan, critics argue that Diana has sometimes become part of the brand. There are those in royal circles who worry that every Diana story results in an emotional influence that makes criticism of Meghan almost impossible.”

Phew. Those are STRONG words.

But sources close to the Spencer family insist that Harry’s motivation is much simpler and much more sincere. Another Spencer source explained:

“This isn’t about headlines for Harry. It’s about making sure his children know the woman he still misses every day.”

And honestly, it’s hard not to understand that perspective. Diana’s death has left a huge mark on Harry’s life, something he has spoken about publicly for years. Wanting his children to understand who she was, beyond the photos, documentaries and endless media coverage, seems like a natural desire for a son still grieving for his mother almost thirty years later.

But whether the visit remains completely private is a completely different matter. According to another insider who spoke Naughty but nice:

“Concern has never been Harry’s motive. People understand why he wants to do this. The concern is whether a very personal family moment remains private – or ultimately becomes part of the public story.”

And therein lies the question that always seems to follow Harry and Meghan: can a deeply personal family moment remain deeply personal when the whole world is watching?

Ultimately, when the grave visit actually takes place during the family’s journey back to Britainmany people are likely to see it as a son’s moving tribute to his late mother, while others may continue to debate the role Diana’s memory plays in the Sussex story. Either way, it sounds like Harry’s focus is right where it has been for years: preserving Diana’s legacy for the next generation of his family.
