EXCLUSIVE: Five dominated the charts in the late nineties before splitting, and while the group previously united, they’re back as a five-piece, and Jason Brown has opened up about the decision
five Singer Jason Brown has revealed the real motive behind the 90s boyband’s full-length reunion. After splitting up in 2001, the band briefly reunited as a five-piece in 2006 before going their separate ways once again.
Fast forward to 2012, the band joined forces once again with the likes of Atomic Kitten, 911, Liberty X and B*Witched for ITV’s The Big Reunion, sans jason. Brown declined to participate due to privacy concerns. He did not speak to his bandmates for several years.
However, things changed rapidly last year when it was revealed that he would be returning to the stage with his bandmates once again. abz love, Scott Robinson, richie neville And sean conlon. talking to mirror But Download FestivalBrown said of his decision to return: “Life, it all fell into place.
“Some of us haven’t spoken for many years, just because of how life has been and just because some of the little things have been going on, we’ve shared a lot of close things with each other over the years. Some things came out of that.
“We haven’t seen each other, decided it’s been too long.” Jason, known as Jay, said he had only met one of Shawn’s children and not any of his bandmates’ children. He said, “We all started talking again, and after talking and realizing that the friendship is still the same as it was before, things started coming to light.”
He added: “We started getting offers for things, we turned it down saying we didn’t really want to do anything. Then we were offered an arena tour and we said ‘ok’ to that – which turned into 12 dates to 25 arenas and it kept snowballing. And now we’re on Download.”
But while the band is busy playing festivals, Scott admits they don’t want to get tied into too many plans. “I’m sure management is making some plans in the background,” he said.
He added: “We’re really enjoying this spontaneity of being offered a program, looking at it and going ‘yes, we’d like to play that’.”
Shawn admitted that the group are “taking in the moment” and can’t believe it’s been a year since they joined mega star Robbie Williams on stage at his Wembley show to perform his 1999 hit, Keep On Movin’.
However, Richie did have some strong advice for people going to Download or other festivals this year. “Poo before you come,” the hitmaker said, laughing. Meanwhile, Jay said: “Try and pitch your tent in a little shade.”
Although playing the band Download, which is usually known for its rock and metal music, Richie said: “Well, it wasn’t something that was on my personal cards, so I wasn’t expecting it, yeah, but here we are.”
Jason joked: “I didn’t think we’d ever be invited to play at Download, but here we are and we’re doing it. We’re going to make it.”
Speaking about the diverse crowd, Richie said: “We love going out and giving it everything we’ve got, we’ve got great musicians supporting us, I think the crowd will enjoy that.”
