Ruth Langsford shares ‘fantastic news’ on air as she steps in to replace Lorraine Kelly

Lorraine is hosted by Ruth Langsford on Friday as Lorraine Kelly is in the US for Scotland’s World Cup match.

A LORRAINE The star was surprised by the announcement minutes on-air on the ITV daytime programme.

Ruth Langsford Lorraine stepped in for Kelly on Friday’s show, following Josie Gibson’s debut the day before.

The change comes after Lorraine revealed earlier this week United States trip to ScotlandThe upcoming World Cup match against Morocco on Friday night.

Presenting Lorraine, Ruth spoke to Dr Hilary Jones before a segment with Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon.

After discussing the importance of wearing deodorant in a heatwave, Ruth gives Dr. Hillary a birthday surprise.

Ruth began: “The other wonderful news, it’s someone who’s a million miles away from here, it’s his birthday today.”

As the studio started playing birthday music, Dr Hillary joked: “Oh really?”

Ruth added: “Dr. Hillary, we couldn’t let you go without a very unhealthy (cake)… but you know, it’s your birthday! Enjoy, happy birthday!”

As Dr. Hillary responded, Ruth said: “Have a nice day, thank you very much, we’ll definitely have some of that cake during the break.”

Dr Hilary’s appearance on the program comes months after he revealed he was stepping down from the show amid a series of cuts at ITV.

Speaking at the Best Hero Awards last year, he shared: “I’m still working there until December 31st, and then I’m a free agent.”

He said that “It’s a liberation from the constraints of being a news program presenter” but confirmed that he would “probably return as an occasional guest presenter”.

“People are becoming very sensitive to the fact that some people are having to move,” he said.

“A lot of people are being redeployed elsewhere or into the same roles. Like everyone else, ITV is having to make changes.”

There have been a number of changes at ITV in recent months, with Lorraine’s previous one-hour slot now reduced to just half an hour, and only running 30 weeks of the year.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
