Sydney Sweeney blames social media for turning her working relationship with Zendaya into a public spectacle.
He Euphoria The actress addressed the meat rumor in a new vanity fair interview, after months of speculation about his friendship with Zendaya on and off the set of the HBO drama.
“Honestly, it’s crazy to see how social media and the press spin things,” he said.
“I was in first position for HBO,” Sweeney continued. “So the moment they say, ‘Hey, this is the first day of filming,’ I’m not legally allowed to do anything else. So my schedule doesn’t affect the show. And it was fun to see everyone tell narratives about it. We were all in first position, so it wasn’t like any of our schedules were holding it up.”
Sweeney and Zendaya became the faces of Euphoria after the series premiered in 2019. Some theories suggest that Sweeney’s alleged political leanings were the reason for the breakup between them, although neither star has confirmed this.
“I think the really difficult thing is that journalists speak for me. So anything I say now will be rewritten and published,” Sweeney said. “The thing is, people like headlines and not everyone reads an article, not everyone listens to a podcast. They want the easy clickbait and whatever is more digestible, more interesting. And that’s all they see and that’s what they run with. And then all of a sudden crazy things come out of that.”
