A 25-year-old athlete dies after a tragic accident.
News recently broke up of the death of Jemma Stapleton, with a GoFundMe noting that he “tragically lost his life in an accident while abroad with his family.” Police have now released preliminary details of what happened.
Stapleton, a runner who was recently a finalist in the famous Australian Stawell Gift foot race, died on June 10 while visiting Koh Samui, Thailand. According to police statements to ThaiExaminer.comHe was riding a motorcycle on a winding road in rainy conditions when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.
Two cars were also involved in the accident, but authorities did not reveal more specific details of how the accident unfolded.
Loved ones have organized a fundraiser for Stapleton’s family following Per’s passing. The public has raised more than $103,440 AUD for the cause.
Numerous athletic organizations have issued statements regarding the beloved running back’s passing, including the Victorian Athletic League. VAL has even reached cover grief counseling for Stapleton’s colleagues during this difficult time.
“Jemma was a valued member of our community whose presence, character and contribution left a lasting impact on those around her,” VAL’s statement read in part. “On behalf of everyone at the Victorian Athletic League, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jemma.”
