Is Claire really Alice? “The Way Home” series finale explained (SPOILERS)

WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT THE WAY HOME SERIES FINALE!The way home The series finale finally addressed the long-standing fan theory that Nick’s unseen fiancee, Claire, is actually his first love, Alice. Alice Dhawan (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) met young Nick Oates (Samuel Braun) in 1999 at The Cove, while she was time traveling across the pond. Their love for music brought them together and they fell in love after sharing a kiss.

However, Alice eventually had to return to her own time in the present day, where Nick (Kerry James) had aged into his 40s. Alice later returned to the past for Y2K New Year’s Eve, during which she and young Nick kissed. In the present, Alice was upset that Nick didn’t seem to remember who she was, but was touched when she later heard him admit to Elliot Augustine (Evan Williams) that he still remembered Alice because he never forgot his first love. Alice was ecstatic because Nick was also her first love.

Alice and young Nick shared a few more encounters and eventually he discovered time travel as an adult. He became engaged to a woman named Claire, who was never seen. in The way home. This led some viewers to believe that Claire was actually an older version of Alice and that the show was keeping her true identity a secret. Now, the series finale has addressed that fan theory.

The way home fans They first began to believe that Nick’s fiancée, Claire, was actually Alice because they could see how much they loved each other in the past and how much they still cared for each other in the present, even though they couldn’t be together because Alice was still a teenager and Nick was an adult. Their current relationship was sweet and innocent because older Nick always respected the boundaries of his relationship with young Alice.

Fans noticed that Claire’s name was an anagram of “R Alice”, leading them to believe that Alice and Nick became a couple when she became an adult in the present, or that she had traveled back in time from the future when she was of an appropriate age to date Nick and they became engaged. This, combined with the fact that Claire never appeared in The way homesupported the theory that Claire and Alice were the same person.

Did The Way Home series finale confirm that Claire is Alice?

Although The way home series finale did not explicitly confirm that Claire is actually Alice, a scene at the end of the episode, titled “Ahead by a Century”, strongly hinted that the theory might be correct. The older Nick had seen Alice kiss Max Goodwin (Dale Whibley), after he also saw her in an awkward moment with him in which Max told her she could have the kind of relationship she wanted with him. Nick had encouraged her to look for love with Max. After realizing that Nick had seen her kiss Max, Alice jokingly told him: “This is getting ridiculous.” He replied, “Oh, you know you love me, Alice.” to which she replied, “I do. In my very strange way, I do.”

Alice then congratulated Nick on finally buying Colton’s (Jefferson Brown) boat from Del (Andie MacDowell). Nick told her that he thought he and Claire would make some great memories on the ship and “Be a normal Del and Colton.” Then Alice asked: “Will I ever meet Claire?” Nick replied: “I’m sure you will someday.” The look on Nick’s face and a change in the music made it seem like maybe Nick was sharing a moment with Claire, because she was actually Alice from the future.

The creators and executive producers of The way homeHeather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke, who are mother and daughter, leave the Claire-Is-Alice theory open to fan interpretation. In an interview with Television InsiderClarke laughed when asked about the mystery surrounding Alice meeting Claire.

Conkie then said: “That’s us being cheeky because there are some who actually think Alice is Claire and vice versa. We left that open.” Clarke added: “We left it open because you never know. You never say never, like we say never, you never say never. And we were being very shameless.”

In an interview with PeopleConkie and Clarke also explained their reasoning for not revealing Claire in the end of the series The way home. When asked if there was any mystery there, Clarke replied: “It’s fun because we love the trope of the person you’ll never meet, the invisible character that people talk about but you’ll never meet. It’s fun… But then when we started hiding that and the fans found out… this whole beautiful theory developed about it being Alice and I think it’s amazing. Yeah, I’m not going to lie, we’re a little cheeky about it in the end because it’s a great theory.”

Conkie stated: “At some point, that age difference doesn’t make as much of a difference as when they first meet in real time. We probably never would have done that, but just to give it a little twist to the music when he said at the end, ‘Oh, maybe one day…'”

Clarke added that the questions that arose in the finale “they are fun” and what were they “Trying to encourage fans to write the next chapter themselves.” She explained, “Imagine what Nick meant by that last saying: ‘Oh, I think you’ll meet her someday.'” Clarke explained that she and Conkie left some questions about The way home unanswered because they love and appreciate all the fan theories. They “I wanted to give fans a moment to encourage them to be Kat and write their story about what might happen next. I hope the questions we answered are the ones that fundamentally needed answering.”

So Claire is Alice? The answer to that question is now open. The fact that the end of the series The way home didn’t disprove the theory by showing Claire with Nick clues that maybe it’s true after all, and that Alice and Nick find their way back to each other, either when Alice becomes an adult in real time or when she travels back to him from the future. However, it’s also possible that Claire is a completely different person. Now it’s up to fans to write their own ending to Alice and Nick’s love story, which is what caused the series to end. The way home so fascinating.
