THE 4TH TIME IS THE CHARM?! TI and Tiny are heading straight back to federal court after the judge reduces their massive “OMG Dolls” victory purse from $71 million to $18 million!
Honey, dust off your sharpest courtroom suits and get your prayer circles aggressively into formation, because Atlanta’s premier power couple is officially entering the legal battlefield for a breathtaking… fourth time! Media takeawayfollows the all-out, multi-year intellectual property war between hip-hop legends T.I (Clifford Harris Jr.), his powerful wife Tameka “Little” Harrisand the multi-billion dollar toy giant MGA Entertainment– the corporate brain behind the wildly popular LOL Surprise! OMG fashion doll line.

Just when the world thought the Harris family had permanently secured the ultimate bag to protect Black creative culture, the legal matrix completely flipped the script. The long awaited The fourth trial will officially begin next week, on June 23and the stakes are exceptionally high. The entire proceeding will look like a hyper-focused, three-day mini-trial with an eight-person jury, focused entirely on figuring out exactly how many millions MGA should cough up in proper damages.
To understand why we’re back at the starting line after years of intense legal drama, look at the incredibly messy, historical breadcrumbs that led to this unprecedented courtroom layout!
Trial 1 (January 2023): The Mistrial Madness & “Cultural Appropriation”
The epic war originally started in 2020 when TI and Tiny filed a massive lawsuit accusing MGA Entertainment of completely ripping off their teen pop group’s unique name, vibrant neon aesthetic, and very distinct, colorful fashion looks. OMG Girlz—the 2009 musical trio featuring Tiny’s daughter Zonnique “Star” Pullins alongside Bahja Rodriguez and Breaunna Womack.
The first highly publicized trial was eventually launched in January 2023 in Santa Ana, California. But honey, this one barely got off the ground! The whole thing collapsed mistrial after a witness unexpectedly violated strict court orders by telling the jury that the multi-billion dollar toy company was actively “misappropriating and stealing black culture.” MGA’s corporate lawyers aggressively threw a flag at the piece, arguing that the statement completely poisoned the jury, forcing the judge to dismiss the lawsuit entirely.

Trial 2 (May 2023) and Trial 3 (September 2024): The Defeat, the Appeal, and the $71 Million Victory!
The second trial concluded just a few months later, and honey, it was a total heartbreak for the Harris camp. The jury ultimately sided with MGA and cleared the toy company of any wrongdoing. But TI and Tiny are absolute fighters! They launched a fierce, powerful appeal, using a brand new trademark ruling from the Supreme Court to completely overturn that defensive verdict and secure a third chance at justice.
And baby, Trial 3 was an absolute masterclass in justification! In September 2024, the jury sat through three weeks of intense testimony, with the OMG Girlz themselves taking the stand to prove that specific dolls looked good. identical to specific outfits they wore at public events. The jury completely agreed and hit MGA with an astonishing blow Total judgment of $71.4 million ($17.9 million in compensatory damages for lost profits, plus as much as $53.6 million in punitive damages). Tiny stood outside the courthouse and cried tears of joy on Instagram Live, shouting: “We did this for the culture!” —
Why are we going to test drive for the fourth time?
So, how did a $71 million final victory end up right back in the courtroom? It all comes down to the strict limits of California law.
Following post-trial motions, U.S. District Judge James V. Selna issued a final ruling, stating that while the $17.9 million damages award was entirely solid, the enormous portion of the $53.6 million damages award was simply not supported by the clear weight of evidence. The judge argued that while MGA was certainly negligent, there was not a high enough threshold of “conscious disregard or malice” in the designers’ internal emails to warrant that specific multi-million dollar fine.
The judge then gave TI and Tiny an absolute ultimatum: either accept face value $1 in punitive damages (bringing their total check to $17.9 million) and call it a day, or roll the dice and go all the way back to a fourth trial to let a new jury decide on a constitutionally sound punitive payout. Honey, the king and queen of the South chose it fight!
Next week’s trial is solely a battle for punishment. The $17.9 million winnings are already in the vault, but TI and Tiny will return to the witness stand next week to convince eight brand new jurors that MGA’s bad faith deserves severe financial punishment. Media Take Out definitely raises prayers for TI, Tiny and the girls as they step back into the trenches to defend Black intellectual property against corporate giants. Stay tuned as next week is about to be an absolute movie! Stay tuned, honey!
