The next Bond film will be produced by Amazon’s MGM Studios, with Denis Villeneuve of Dune films fame directing and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing. The story will reportedly focus on the threat posed to security by AI.
The new lead has yet to be announced, but Amazon confirmed that auditions for the role have begun. “The search for the next James Bond continues,” he said in a statement.
“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans when the time is right.”
Favorites for the role currently include Callum Turner, following his marriage to Dua Lipa, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jacob Elordi. The last person to play Bond was Daniel Craig, who originated the role in 2006 with Casino Royale but followed the release of No Time to Die in 2021.
Tom Holland is also a strong contender to become the next Bond. In a recent interview with SirHolland was asked if he would play the role, to which he replied: “I guess if you were lucky enough to get the job, who would I be to turn up my nose at modern cinema’s most iconic British character?”
The actor, who recently married his Spiderman co-star Zendaya, also said that he “grew up” with the Bond films and had always been a “huge fan of spy films”, but was not actively campaigning for the role for a unique reason.
The producer of the unnamed upcoming Bond film is Amy Pascal, with whom Holland worked on the Spiderman films. He said that while it was his “do or die” situation, he was trying to be “respectful” and “professional” of their relationship. He said he did not want to “move on” but was still thinking about the role.
